Acer make a step on the smartphone market at MWC 2009

28 01 2009

gsmarena_0011

On 16 February Acer will announce all the details about their entering into the mobile phone market. As they promised last year they will introduce at least one smartphone (most probably WinMo one).

Perhaps you remember E-Ten Glofiish smartphones. Not long ago Acer bought the Taiwan-based mobile manufacturer E-Ten and promised to show the world their first Windows Mobile smartphone at the end of 2008 or early 2009. It seems it will happen at this year’s Mobile Word Congress in Barcelona.
According to the official Acer invitation the smartphones launch will be on 16 February. As you may notice it says “smartphones”, so there may be more than one handset to surprise us.

There is no other information around, but some people guess that the upcoming devices may be powered by the latest Windows Mobile 6.5.

HTC Touch Cruise 09 officially unveiled, GPS but no WinMo 6.5

24 01 2009

This is from gsmarena .com
gsmarena_005

Today HTC announced a new WinMo-powered device with GPS navigation as its main features. Photos of the device, nicknamed Iolita have already leaked online on several occasions but now it makes its official debut as HTC Touch Cruise 09.

Yeah using the name of an old device may same a bit silly but if you think every ipods change. they have the same names but differ only slightly.

Much like its 02 twin brother – XDA Guide the HTC Touch Cruise 09 strongest asset (and selling point) is GPS navigation. It packs a brand new Advanced Navigation System and the new HTC Footprints location-based services. Those include geo-tagging of photos, sound clips etc. Full turn-by-turn navigation capabilities are said to be included in the device for no extra charge and a car cradle will also be provided in the retail package.

The Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional powered Touch Cruise uses a 528 MHz Qualcomm MSM 7225 processor and 256 MB of RAM. There is also 512 MB of ROM on board, that expandable through the microSD card slot. Some of the other features the new Cruise include the sweet TouchFLO ready to roll on the 2.8″ 65K color QVGA touchscreen, 3G with HSDPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (2.0 and A2DP). A 3.2 megapixel fixed focus snapper that is in charge of the photography.

The HTC Touch Cruise 09 will start shipping this spring with an estimated retail price of 460 euro (600 US dollars).

which comes to this they best start releasing a 6.5 update pretty much as soon as it released so they dont lose any custom

WinMo 6.5 maybe available by next month

21 01 2009

winmo65WinMo 6.5 available by next month?, thats according to some new leaked information

Also is the hint of three new mobile services from microsoft apparently getting shown at the MWC 2009 in february.
Unlike 6.1 there has been no mention of what new ideas the OS will have, or what it’ll look like

Despite running on some of the most capable mobile hardware. WinMo 6.1 can it predecessors can only be described and clumsy and they have no real online presence apart from hotmail.

Where Apple have MobileMe and their AppStore and Google have a whole suite of online application services, and even Blackberry are pushing an online Application center, Windows Mobile has nothing to show. That seems kind of outdated in modern times where everything is synced wirelessly to the cloud and you are always online.

Last October Microsoft announced Windows Azure platform – cloud services operating system, which will be a hosting and management environment for future online services. According to the leaked info the three brand new Azure services will be SkyBox, SkyLine and SkyMarket and they wil be launched in February at the MWC 2009.

SkyBox provides wireless sync capabilities to WinMo users. Contacts, messages, organizer events, files, backup and restore functions will be some of the upcoming features of this service.

SkyLine is aimed at the business clients. It offers the same features as SkyBox, but allows corporate clients to host their Exchange servers with Microsoft and use the wireless synchronization on all the corporate phones.

SkyMarket, as you can guess, is the answer to Apple AppStore. The Microsoft’s mobile marketplace will gather the hundreds of Windows Mobile applications in one place for the first time, so users can buy and download them with one click.

As of now no one knows what improvements will be introduced with version 6.5 of Windows Mobile. Multi-touch support, UI reorganization and better thumb optimization are some of the things that come to mind as logical upgrades. One thing is for sure – we’ll get our answers first-hand in February when we visit the MWC 2009.
