Gigabyte brings on g-Smart S1200 and the g-Smart MS820

19 02 2009

It’s touchscreen galore over at the GSMA and Gigabyte are claiming a piece of the action with the g-Smart MS820 and S1200. They’re both 3G enabled PocketPCs with Wi-Fi, Office Mobile and fancy UI plug-ins.

Other shared features are GPS, microSD memory expansion and push email support, Bluetooth and miniUSB 2.0.

Similar as these devices are, a few differences emerge upon closer inspection.

Gigabyte g-Smart S1200

The Gigabyte S1200 is a new release unlike the MS820. It adds HSUPA to the connectivity set and a larger 3.1″ WVGA screen. At 11.4 mm, it’s not the thinnest PocketPC, but definitely on the slim side.

And there’s another surprise in store – in the specifications, Gigabyte lists the OS as Windows Mobile 6.1/6.5 Professional.

This time around, Gigabyte opted for a Flash UI plug-in instead of their Smart Touch. It seems that the Gigabyte S1200 offers almost anything you could want in a PocketPC. It may be a little late to the party however, a 528MHz CPU with 128 MB RAM already considered average. We didn’t hold that against the MS820, but it’s been around for a while. A 3 megapixel autofocus camera is the last thing on the Gigabyte S1200 spec sheet to note.

The g-Smart MS820 is not exactly novel. It featured at the 2008 Computex and even snatched the Taiwan Excellence Silver Award for its accelerometer feature. The G-Sensor is utilized as a navigation solution in several applications and games.

Gigabyte MS820 sports a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and face detection – a rarity in the Windows Mobile world. Other than that, the phone supports HSDPA and is powered by a Marvell PXA270 520MHz CPU and uses 128 MB of RAM.

Windows Mobile is nicely tucked under the proprietary Smart Touch UI, version 3. It’s a touch optimized UI – the Gigabyte answer to TouchFlo by HTC. With a 2.8 inch display of VGA resolution, it looks pretty sleek.

Gigabyte MS820 at a glance: quad-band GSM, HSDPA 2100, Marvell PXA270 520MHz processor, 2.8″ VGA touchscreen, GPS SIRF Star III, 5 MP autofocus cam with face detection, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, miniUSB 2.0, 256 MB ROM/128 MB RAM, microSD, push email, Office Mobile, Smart Touch III UI, Windows Live Messenger, 1300 mAh Li-Ion battery.

Windows Mobile 6.5

17 02 2009

After enough anticipation WinMo 6.5 has been released, And i must say im impressed

it looks good and friendly, less harsh than previous versions. rounded images make thias winner for looks, while it does not support multi touch nativly it doesnt appear that its going to be problem.

the start bar at the top seem to be able to be merged into the wallpaper, whether this is a user doable action or relies on theme to be created is yet to be seen how it still makes this version look good

all we have to wait for is a few pictures of the on screen keyboard, if the wait cursor has been replaced with something befitting and a video of hows it works practically

a forum for 6.5 roms on winmodevelpers.co.cc will be opened sooner to the time of the OS release so keep looking for that

new LG phones – GSM Arena

17 02 2009

LGPHONES

“With only several hours remaining to the start of MWC 2009 the leaks continue pouring in. This time it’s LG turn with photos of several of their yet unannounced phones appearing online.So here they go from left to right (that shot up there is clickable):

* LG GM730 (WinMo with S-class flavor)
* LG KM900 Arena
* LG GM730 (again, only 11.9mm thick)
* LG GD900 (transparent keyboard, are they kidding?)
* LG GC900 (8 megapixel cameraphone)

From what we see there are at least three new handsets awaiting us (plus the LG KM900 Arena, which is already announced).

You can easily spot that two of the handsets run on the newly announced S class UI, while the third is using Windows Mobile Professional OS. However it also has a plug-in simulating a UI very similar to the S class.

All of the new handsets sport touchscreens. Quite interestingly the fourth handset from left to right either has a transparent keypad or we’ve had too much sangria”

this is just a lil sneak peek at the WinMo stand at the mwc at barcelona

notice the lack of the windows mobile branding it looks to have changed to windows phone i think this may be more of a marketing name rather than a brand name change, i think the winmo brand has grown to big for yet another name change

All HTC devices taken off forums!!!

11 02 2009

after talking to the xda developers people about the site, i suggested they refer all the users that ask for forums for non htc devices on there forumsto here

after talking for while there was a discovery of a conflict of interest, there are both htc and non htc devices on the forum. so in order to get the forum to were it should be all HTC deives have been deleted from the forum.

this does not mean there will be no talk of them on the forum but there will be no more forums opened for HTC devices, HTc roms created by users can still be posted as they are done by the users

We apologise for the reduction in forums but felt it was necessary to make the site go in the direction we wanted

Thank yoiu for the support

LG KM900 Arena comes with multi-touch and graphics chip!!!!!

10 02 2009

MultitouchLG

We have some good news for the future owners of the LG KM900 Arena. According to the company web site, the newly announced full touchscreen handset will support multi-touch input and will come with a dedicated graphics chip.

Although the multi touch will only be to be used on the ineternet and for picture viewing this proves this proves that multi touch is available on a WinMo handset and that the manufacturers are still working o please. And a silence for other websites constantly complaining of the lack of this feature

The dedicated graphics chip should provide faster and more responsive UI. And should compliment the WVGA display just nicely.

Also mentioned was the 8GB memory and a card slot to expand the memory further. no mention of it being hot swappable, we should hope so since LG say developing this device has taken 100 man years to develop

In case you have by any chance missed it or you need a quick memory refresh here are the rest of the LG KM900 Arena noteworthy features. Those include a 5-megapixel, capable of doing high-res video, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity as well as a built-in GPS receiver. The handset will aslo offer the Dolby Mobile feature which promises “outstanding surround sound stereo”.

LG KM900 Arena is expected to start its European expansion in March 2009 but the price tag is still unknown.

LG KM900 Arena Official

9 02 2009

lgmobile

After gsmarena leakedthe information og the latest LG WinMo phone, wierdly enough though the company will not be giving all of the details up about the mobile until WMC

What is certain for now is that the LG KM900 Arena sports GPS, Wi-Fi and HSDPA 7.2 Mbps. DivX and XviD support are also onboard and the new 3D interface, daringly dubbed S-Class, features some kind of rotating cube, much like the first implementation of the HTC-made TouchFLO UI.

The LG KM900 Arena will come with an impressive 3″ 262K color WVGA (800×480 pixels) touchscreen display. A 5 megapixel camera will be included.

The LG KM900 Arena will stand at 105.9 x 55.3 x 11.95mm and will weigh 105 grams
